Ayumi Hamasaki's thirty-sixth single, fairyland, was released on 3 August 2005, with the song "alterna" as a b-side. The single was the first of hers to feature different covers for the CD and CD/DVD versions, a practice that has continued with her subsequent singles. Both songs appeared on her album (miss)understood, released on 1 January 2006. The CD/DVD version of the album includes a making-of clip of the "alterna" PV. An orchestral version appears on her single HEAVEN, released on 14 September 2005.
